Baseball is a bat and ball game played by two teams of nine players each. A game consists of nine innings in which players of both the teams take turns at batting to score runs by advancing around four bases. No person disagrees with the fact that baseball is the most popular and the most beloved game in America. If you are interested in it, so when buying baseballs, you need to pay attention to points below:

Classification of Baseball

For different ages and occasions, there are plenty of baseball options, such as hard baseball, softball, Foam baseball and so on. For training and competition, we often use hard baseball and softball. Children usually play foam baseball so as to protect themselves.

Cover Materials

You can find two materials: leather and synthetic. These materials make up the cover of the baseball. Synthetic covers, often made of PVC/PU, can resist dirt and maintain color, which are more cost-effective alternative. Leather covers are more durable and can provide a more secure grip. Some players prefer synthetic cover baseballs for practice and save the leather baseballs for competition.

Baseball Stitching

When it comes to the 108 stitches, there are a few options to players. The stitching on a baseball can be divided into three kinds: raised, rolled or flat.

Raised-seam baseballs have the stitching elevated from the surface of the ball. These seams are designed to “grip” the air for easier control and are used for casual play or instruction. Beginner baseball players prefer using raised-seam baseballs.

Rolled seams have far less elevated stitching, giving them less air resistance than raised seams, while remaining comfortable to grip. Many competition-level baseballs are with this style of stitching.

Flat-seam baseballs lie flat against the surface of the ball, which can make them more difficult to grip and control, which are great for use in pitching machines.

Inside Structure

This part is really crucial. At the heart of your ball lies a small, round center called the core. The core consists of cork, rubber or a combination of the two. Wool yarn or a wool blend wrapped around the core is very thick, so the wool windings have a high compression threshold and can help extend the life of a baseball.

In addition to your baseball’s lifespan, the wool windings can also affect your ball’s circumference. Baseballs recommended for competitive play are between 9 and 9 ¼ inches in circumference. And the total weight is between 5 and 5.25 ounces.

Notice these tips, and you can choose the right baseball.
